Kim Wilde – The Second Time (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on March 26th, 2013

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

A. Front

“The Second Time” is the first single from Kim Wilde’s 1984 album Teases & Dares. It was re-titled “Go for It” for the North American market. The song was written by Kim Wildes father (Marty Wilde) and brother (Ricky Wilde).

The track was also Wilde’s first release on the MCA record label. Her last few releases on her original label had failed to make an impact on the world’s charts, but this one finally put her back into the limelight in several European countries, and made #29 in the UK. It also marked her second chart entry in the US, where it peaked at #65.

The b-side “Lovers on a Beach” (an exclusive non-album track), was also extended for the 12″ single in some nations.

Hi Paul. Thanks a lot for this! I used to have the exact same 12″, but regretfully I gave it to a friend who collected Kim Wilde records. Missed “Lovers On A Beach” in this version ever since. Thanks again for your outstanding work.

This is my absolute favourite Kim Wilde single. Unfortunately as a youngster I couldn’t afford the 12″ single so had to wait until Christmas for the Teases & Dares LP before I could listen to The Second Time over and over. Thanks for sharing this. The B-side is really, really excellent too. Funny how I’m listening to more 80s stuff in the form of gems like this than I did in the 1980s! 🙂

By the way, “Lovers on a beach” is, among her fans, arguably her best B-side track ever.

I can’t remember which charity concert it was, but Kim sang Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word together with her dad, and it is simply beautiful!
Paul, thanks for your Kimmy post…Britain’s most desirable female from 1981 to 1984 until Madonna invaded the UK!
