Janet Jackson – Control (US 12″ Promo)

Posted by DjPaulT on November 13th, 2012

“Control” is the fourth single from Janet Jackson’s third album Control. The song was written by Jackson, James Harris III, and Terry Lewis and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Its arrangement, built upon complex rhythmic tracks, showcased state-of-the-art production. The song is about Jackson wanting to finally take control of her life. Jackson sings, “When I was seventeen, I did what people told me.” Now she is an adult who wants to make her own decisions in life.

Released in 1986, the single peaked at number five on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming Jackson’s fourth consecutive top five hit on the chart; it also peaked at number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and the Hot Dance Club Play charts. The song captured a pivotal moment off the album by showcasing a female streak of independence. It was the 37th biggest Hot 100 single of 1987, the fifth biggest Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs single of 1987, and the ninth biggest-selling 12″ single of 1987. In the UK it missed the top 40, peaking at number 42.

Great to have the Dub!! The other mixes on on various Control – The Remixes cds she released. Any chance we can get the 12″s (with acappellas hopefully) of Pleasure Principle and Alright?

    Thanks so much again! -Fred

You’re welcome Fred I am sure I will post more Janet in the future 🙂 I don’t like to make promises just in case I can’t do it.

    What a landmark 1986 album!
Of the 7 singles to be released, this is actually my least favourite, and that’s only because Janet had so many brilliant singles off the album!
I remember being very surprised this ranked high in the year end Hot 100, beating the likes #1’s like Who’s That Girl, Jacob’s Ladder, I Just Can’t Stop Loving You and #2’s like You Got The Look, Causing A Commotion and her very own Let’s Wait Awhile.
Thanks for your rip, Paul. Janet worked so well with Jam & Lewis for 4 albums.

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Ric. My favorite was “Let’s Wait A While” always loved that track 🙂

  4. Disco-D Says:

Thanks, Paul. I have this 12in too. You should grab the Video Mix as well 🙂

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Disco D. I have the “Video Mix” 12″ but didn’t post it as it seems to be more common.

  5. Christian Says:

Thanks, Paul. I much prefer this mix to the “Video Mix.” Silly that they had the exact same single cover.

  6. Junior Says:

A shame it just missed the UK top 40

    Thanks for this Paul 🙂

  7. Marcio Says:

Hey, Paul! Thank you so much for this! Any chance of you ripping the other Janet 12″s from this era? 🙂
