“Diana” is a song performed by Bryan Adams. Written by Adams and Jim Vallance, the track appears as the B-side to “Heaven” and is one of the most prominent of Bryan Adams’ non-album songs.
The song was written in March 1984 in Vancouver, Canada. It was intended as a light, comedic song about the wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer. The song was not included on Adams’ Reckless album because Adams was worried about offending the royal couple. Nevertheless, the song was later released as a b-side on the single, “Heaven”.
The lyrics of the song admire Diana, a celebrity who the narrator first saw in a magazine, then later on TV. The narrator professes his love for Diana, and indicates that her current husband (never mentioned by name) is not good enough for her. The narrator begs Diana to leave her husband, indicating that she wouldn’t have to be part of the “social scene” if she were with him.
Though the song is assumed to be about Diana and Prince Charles, the song never explicitly identifies the characters as such. Furthermore, is it never mentioned what Diana does (other than being a well-known celebrity), nor is Charles mentioned by name or title. A royal connection is made, though, in that Diana is identified by the narrator as “the queen of all my dreams”.
According to co-writer Jim Vallance, when the British press obtained a copy of the record, they “attempted to fabricate a scandal” by saying that Adams had inappropriate feelings for Diana and had insulted Prince Charles
Adams often performed the song during his live concerts up until the day of Diana’s death after which he retired the song permanently
A&M Records released the song in 1985 as 12″ EP in Canada. The EP contains Adams hit “Summer Of ’69″ and a megamix titled “The Bryan Adamix” which was remixed by Sanny X.

Hi Ric it’s a pretty good megamix just wish it had a few more tracks. I go back to the doctor on October 23 and will find out then what the data says from the two weeks that I wore the monitor if all is ok I will not have to wear it for the remaining two weeks. Fingers crossed it all comes back good

Hi Paul, great post. Nice to see another rare Bryan Adams track added to your blog.
I’d really like to see the 1984 Specially Remixed Version of ‘Run To You’ added to your blog sometime. Never heard that rare mix.
And in 1983 A&M US released a promo 12 inch of ‘This Time’ with a rare Extended Studio Version of ‘I’m Ready’ on the B-side. Never heard that one too. Curious if it is just an extension (by montage) or really a longer version.

Hi Andrew thank you for the kind comment I appreciate it. That’s a great ONJ track but the “Extended Version” is not official it is a fan made mix. There was never an official “Extended Version” of “Magic”.

I did wonder, as I trawled Discogs looking for it.
Which is a shame as it was a missed ‘oper-chance-ity’, in my humble opinion.
Is there a longer ‘Live’ version by any chance ?

Not that I am aware of. There is a long live version of “Physical” though from 1982 it’s the b-side of the UK “I Honestly Love You” 12″ which was released in 1983 to coincide with the Physical tour.
