Olivia Newton-John – Soul Kiss (US 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on August 28th, 2012

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985

“Soul Kiss” was the first single and title track from Olivia Newton-John’s thirteenth studio album. Released in 1985 the single reached #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts, Newton-John’s last U.S. Top 40 Pop single to date in the U.S. and her second-to-last in Canada, and “Bubbled Under” the UK singles chart at #100.

“Soul Kiss” was a continuation of Olivia’s move into more sexually suggestive territory that had begun four years earlier with “Physical”. Newton-John was pregnant at the time of the single’s release and was therefore unable to promote it. A music video was produced and recieved heavy rotation on MTV and VH-1, the video features a very pregnant Olivia mostly filmed on a bed of red satin sheets, the video also featured Olivia’s husband at the time Matt Lattanzi.

Yes, another ONJ 12 inch in perfect quality. Glad with the B-side. I loved this song right away upon release. Ooooh Paul, now you HAVE to re-rip the older ones. We want them in the better quality like these two this week! Skip posting new 12 inches for a few days, we won’t mind at ALL. If Universal doesn’t do the job, hey, we are completely depending on you :)

First off thanks for posting Olivia’s The Rumour yesterday, the sound quality was superb. The funny thing about your Soul Kiss rip is, last year I purchased the japan shm cd remaster of the Soul Kiss album just so I could have a remastered version of the Extended mix, your new rip sounds better. lol

    You’re the best
    Bob

Wow! Thanks Bob just goes to show that vinyl rules in my opinion. I also have the Japanese Box set and agree. You just made my day :)

Vinyl rip rules if done the right way, and which you do Paul!
One of my favourite Olivia’ remixes as Thompson & Barbiero got it on the G-spot!
Back in end 1985, when Soul Kiss was the highest debut of the week on AT40 at #34, I was counting down the weeks when it would hit Top 10 and then Top 5. I was gutted when it only managed #20.
I have both Olivia 12″s that you posted, and after reading the previous comments, I can’t wait to check out your rips! Thank you!

How did you like the rips Ric? I always thought “Soul Kiss” should have at least been a top 10 single but it wasn’t meant to be.

    ric Reply:

I always trust your ripping skills Paul, but am aware that you are also at the mercy of the age, pressing and wear-n-tear of each vinyl.
However, I must say the rip for this is out of this world. Each chime and each beat sound so resounding!!!
    Bliss!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Thank you Ric. i was particularly worried about this one because there are so many soft and quiet parts in the mix. I think it turned out nicely too.

Hi Paul. I adore your site. Is there any chance (please please please) you could re-post the other ONJ singles that are lost to old multiupload links? (especially Twist of Fate)? Thanks, either way. You rock. :)

    DjPaulT Reply:

Hi Derek I am working on putting a dent in the ONJ collection this week. I will be re-ripping some of them including “Twist Of Fate” with my newer equipment so the new rips will sound way better than the old ones :)

I did not read all the threads but in case it is missed; the extended version is also on a Japanese version of the original Soul Kiss album, on CD. But the dub and other versions are elusively here, thanks again! Great 12 inch!
