I always wondered what happened to the U.S. Wipeout Mix Part 1 but I don’t think the album version has ever been referred to as Part 1 here in the U.K., not to my knowledge anyway. The album version was never my favorite mix as it always sounded a tad unfinished compared with the 7″ and 12″ mixes. Mortevicar mix is my favourite but I always liked the Flamenco mix as well so it’s nice to hear it again.

I’d read about the SAW falling out too which was a shame given the quality of the production on the two albums they worked together on.

Personally, I’m glad Dead or Alive decided to stick with what they do best though, glorious, catchy Hi-NRG, and didn’t give in to SAW (kind of ironic that they were trying to push them in a new direction when almost all their own stuff had a very similar, though admittedly infectious, euro-beat sound).

I think both Youthquake and Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know are Dead or Alive’s best albums and Nude, which followed in 1989, was clearly very much influenced by SAW’s production and almost as good (Come Home with Me, Baby should have been a huge, huge hit IMO).

Great band.
