Dead Or Alive – Hooked On Love (Japan 12″)
Posted by DjPaulT on July 24th, 2012
BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987
Re-Rip Remaster + Bonus Track
“Hooked On Love” was the third single released from Dead Or Alive’s third album “Mad, Bad and Dangerous To Know” continuing their association with the Stock Aitken Waterman production team.
“Hooked on Love”, suffered from very little promotion due to what the record company felt was a “Gothic” overtone that had been added to the song in a post-production remix. The single barely managed to scrape into the UK top 70 peaking at #69. “Hooked On Love” was only released in Europe, Australia and Japan.
As a bonus track I have added the live version of “Cake And Eat It” taken from the Ltd. Edition UK “Brand New Lover” 12″. All of the live tracks were recorded in 1985 at the Hammersmith Odeon.
This japanese first pressing contains a large fold out poster.

Just when I think you are about to stop with the DOA releases, here comes more!!! AWESOME ..LOVE IT! I guess the response has been somewhat positive I must say. Great music has a great impact & lasting impressions. DOA was one of those 80s bands that made their mark, gained major attention, and then record companies and other big wigs seemd to have made bad choices with the catalog. Sometimes it is best to leave the creativity up to the artists. DOA had visions, and they were just held back by record big-wigs. Thank you Paul for paying attention to one of the 80′s finest bands. This was an Underground release, easily slep on if you weren’t paying attention. “Gothic” overtone was pretty much a part of DOA in general…??? What was their problem??

You’re welcome JonEthin. I might do one or two more before ending this DOA series. But it won’t be the end for good as i still have much more. I just need to move on to some other projects

You’re welcome Gilbert. I have always loved this 12″ and it’s one of my dearest treasures. I was fortunate enough to buy a first pressing that includes the huge fold out poster of Pete with the “sex” buckle in front of his mouth.

What is the full tracklisting for the UK Brand New Lover 12″?
Is it the same as the US one you posted yesterday, but with a different live track as the fourth song?

We are Hooked On DOA!!!
It’s always nice that you re-visit your earlier rips and upgrade them.
And I can surely tell the improved sound quality, Paul.
Thanks for your continual strive for excellence!

I actually really like the remix of this track. I think it took it from an ok album track to a much better sounding single. I laughed when I first heard it thinking the start sounded like that Bon Jovi single…
Thanks for the up, mate. Appreciated!

It was written somewhere that the guitarist from Dead or Alive messed around with the same technology that Bon Jovi’s guitarist did to get the same sound. If you ask me, it sounds great for the remix. This was a sleeper single, but on of my fav’s off the Mad Bad album for sure.

My favourite DOA song!!! (Or is it You Spin Me Round…?)
Anyway, thanks a lot for such a great 12″. I have the UK 7″ somewhere, and according to discogs.com the B1 track on that one and the Japanese 12″ were recorded live in different places:

Anyone knows if they’re different versions?

Thanks so much for these releases! The only complaint I have about this one (and it’s not your encoding…it’s a bang up job EVERY time!) is that I was kinda hoping the “La Vie En Rose” mix would have been a single edit of the main remix…but it’s just the album version…
Should also let you know that i play a lot of these remixes on my 80s radio show…and my listeners LOVE these mixes! Thanks again for posting these!!

Hi Rick,
just a quick note: the La Vie En Rose mix, which is identical to the Burns2 7″ version, and also used for the official video, is _not_ the album version: the middle eight section (from 2:12 in Dj PaulT’s rip) has additional lyrics, that are absent from the album version.
You’re not the first one making such mistake – even the guys who picked master tapes for That’s the way I like it – Best of DOA weren’t able to pick the right one, and put the album version in the collection… making the 7″ version of HOL the only UK 7″ version still unreleased so far.
btw, Dj PaulT, you’re the best, as usual. The digital rip of Something in My House [LV] really made my week – still have that promo 7″, but the turntable is out of order since 1998. A ton of thanks.
