Wham! – Summer Fun Mega Mix (US 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on June 26th, 2012

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1990

Happy belated birthday George Michael! I meant to post this yesterday for GM’s birthday but didn’t get it finished in time. So here it is today. Enjoy!!

Black Wax is an early 1990s bootleg remix label which put out remixes and megamixes of music covering everything from ’50s to ’90s music. Many of the single artist remixes have new production under them making them very unique.

On this 12″ we have the Wham! “Summer Fun Megamix”. A really nice mix featuring some of Wham!’s biggest hits including “Wham! Rap”, Freedom, I’m Your Man” and more. On the filip side is a megamix of early 80′s disco/funk/r&b tracks, including “Love Come Down” by Evelyn King, “Get Down Saturday Night” by Oliver Cheatham, and “You’re The One For Me” by D-Train.

Happy belated B-day to George indeed!
    And what a celebration!
I also bought this 12″ in 1990, as well as the Queen/ABBA one, the Kim Wilde on, the Eurythmics one, the KLF one, the PSB/Gwen Guthrie one and many more.
A good series as well. Though not as elaborate as On-USound, these mixes are short but nonetheless very fun!
Thank you for your rip, Paul!

You’re welcome Ric. This is the only one of this series that I have so I am glad that you gave some info on the others as I was planning to get more of them :)

Just when I thought I had EVERYTHING that Wham! put out you post something amazingly interesting like this!! Truly a lost gem that even some of us devote fans didn’t even know about. Excellent post Paul. Thank you for your continued work here on Burning The Ground.. you remain an inspiration to me in this 80′s blogging world.

You could knock one of these out in 5 mins on a laptop these days, but these mixes must’ve been a real challenge to do back in the day, with the limited (and no doubt expensive) sampling equipment.

I remember hearing a Smiths one years and years ago, and being amazed at how they got from one song to another – not the most dance mixable band around. :D

Wham, bam, you are the man Dj Paul. Another rare and amazing megamix + a classic R&B groove mix that I really enjoyed listening to. Thank you, thank you!

The first song on the b-side, What I Got Is What You Need by Unique, sounds like Jake Spears’ falsetto. I think Scissor Sisters should do a cover of it!

Thanks for the black wax version, do you have any more black wax material? These mixes are awesome, I have a couple of the tracks from other vinyl, would be great to hear others.

    Great release, Thanks!
