Stevie Nicks – Rooms On Fire (Europ 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on May 11th, 2012

“Rooms on Fire” is a song by the American singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks. Released in May 1989, it was the first single to be taken from Nicks’ fourth solo album, The Other Side of the Mirror.

The song was quite successful on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching #16 in both the UK (Nicks’ first ever UK Top 40 solo hit and her highest chart position there to date) and the U.S. Billboard Chart, and also topped the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

“Rooms on Fire” was performed sporadically at Nicks’ live concerts up until New Year’s Eve of 1999, though has yet to be played live again.

In a 1989 interview, Nicks gave personal insight as to the meaning of “Rooms on Fire”:

“Rooms on Fire is about a girl who goes through a life like I have gone through, where she finally accepts the idea that there never will be those other things in her life. She will never be married, she will never have children, she will never do those [that] part of life.”

I always really liked this 12 inch; just a good old extended version with lots of instrumental parts. Too bad they don’t produce them anymore. Nice to see Stevie Nicks added to your discography, Paul. She belongs in there.

I’m still hoping for ‘Seven Wonders’ 🙂

Your wish may come true in the next few days if not this weekend. Then next week 🙂

Excellent extended version.I always liked this 12″ but now even more because the clarity of the sound that you managed to take out of the vinyl is extraordinary.I don’t think that the studio technicians would be able to do this if they’re given the task to do remasters of some of the 12 inches that you brought to us. Long live and prosper my friend.

Thank you so much Sasomom for the positive feedback. It has taken years and many hours of work but it’s been worth it 🙂

I must admit. It’s also not in my Top 3 Stevie Nicks singles. This single doesn’t rank very high in my 1989 list. But when the intro sets in, it never fails to take me back to that year, the phase of life I was in and what I was going through then. And that’s the magic a song can wield isn’t it?
Thanks for your Stevie treats, Paul!
    It’s been magical!
    Happy weekend!

I personally like “Alice” it’s very catchy and has a great hook. “rooms On Fire” somehow reminds me of “Dreams” maybe a little in the bass line. “Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You” is just beautiful brings tears to my eyes. Have a great weekend Ric 🙂
