BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1987

REQUEST

“Break Every Rule” is a single recorded by Grammy Award winning pop/rock singer Tina Turner. It was the title track to both Turner’s 1986 album of the same name and the name of her 1986/1987 world tour. It was released as a single in early 1987 to support the album and the tour. The song found limited success on the US and UK singles charts. The music video shows Turner performing on stage as well as behind-the-scenes footage of Turner and her band from the tour. The country-flavored song was written by British composer and singer Rupert Hine and his then girlfriend Jeanette Obstoj, who had previously composed “I Might Have Been Queen” which was featured on the Private Dancer album.

I loved this single by Tina. Sadly it was not a big hit as her others, which is a shame since it was such a good tune. Thanks Paul.

Omar it is a great song. But by this tima “Break Every Rule” was the 7th single from the album and I think maybe the public was getting Tina overkill.

You, sir, are my hero. Thanks so much for all the Tina Turner singles you’ve posted now and in the past, especially this one and One of the Living way back when.
Since her label doesn’t seem to care about them (or Tina…) enough to put them on a cd, you were my only hope for all these fantastic remixes! Thanks, man.

    DjPaulT Reply:

Rob I will be posting “Afterglow” to complete this run of Tina Turner. Tina does not have mixes to her version of “Paradise Is Here” and I do not have Cher’s version.

actually there is the full 7 minute live version, of which an edit appears on “Tina Live In Europe”…thanks anyway!!!!!!

    Chwee Reply:

Rob – you are right. The 12″ live version features a longer version of the wonderful track, while the live album version is an edited one. I love the 12″ live version, as I enjoy listening to the audience going “right now” with TINA! ~ Chwee

Thanks, Paul! I’ve never heard all of the remixes of Break Every Rule. I also really like the b-side; even better than Annie Lennox’s version of Take Me To The River.

Paul, your string of Tina 12″s is simply The BEST!
This is one single that I overlooked during this era, but have learnt to appreciate years later. Thanks for your Paul-rip!

  16. Ally Says:

This has always been one of my favorite 12″ singles. I envy those who are hearing these mixes for the first time.

Would you consider posting the extended 12″ remix of Better Be Good To Me? The remastered version of Private Dancer contains an edit of this remix, unfortunately.

  17. Jason63 Says:

Thank you Paul. Once again I only had the extended mix on a compilation cassette from the 80’s.
