BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

REQUEST

“Sidewalk Talk” is a single by American record producer John “Jellybean” Benitez, released in 1984 by EMI Records. The song was originally written by Madonna during the beginning of her career and given to Jellybean in 1985, as he was a collaborator with her during this time.

The artist credit of this recording is Jellybean, with vocals from Catherine Buchanan (nicknamed “Catt”) acknowledged on the disc sleeve. Madonna’s writing credit is on the cover of the single, and shares vocals on the chorus and solos on some verses. “Sidewalk Talk” reached the #1 position on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart on February 1, 1986. It was a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #18. “Sidewalk Talk” made an appearance in the 1999 film Flawless and its soundtrack album. Alvin and the Chipmunks covered the song for “Chipmunk Vice” (a parody of Miami Vice), a 1986 episode of their TV series.

    Great post! Thanks!

May I ask the inspiration for your new banner? The straight font / italic font seems so familiar.

You’re welcome Christian. The inspiration for the new logo was actually inspired by the re-issue of Duran Duran’s debut album: http://www.discogs.com/viewimages?release=332611

Kudos for not only giving us quality content but also changing up the blog presentation every now and then! Truly shows the care and commitment you have for BTG!
And this post! Another favourite 80s 12″ of mine! Thanks Paul!

This is a catchy commercial pop dance single. Madonna really can do no wrong during that era, so hitting #1 on the Club Play charts was a given. However, I was hoping for a better performance on the Hot 100 on the back of her consecutive Top 10s from Borderline to Dress You Up. In between albums, the public was hungry for more of the Material Girl. And just as baffling was this was a flop in the UK as well…
One of the great unsolved mysteries of pop!

Unless…unless the masses mixed this up with Cosmic Climb!

Thank you Ric I love changing and mixing things up now and then. I have always loved graphic design. I guess that is why I am such a fan of vinyl artwork. In the 80’s every band had their own logo design. You don’t see that so much anymore.

“Sidewalk Talk” has always been a fav of mine I remember I bought the 7″ the day it was released and then the 12″. Great memories for me 🙂
