BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

BTG week of LOVE!

“Love Comes Quickly” is a song by UK synthpop duo Pet Shop Boys, released as the third single from their 1986 album Please, and the last of its singles to be released before the album itself. Although a Top 20 hit in the UK, and cited as one the band’s own favourite songs, its chart performance was disappointing, given that it followed the worldwide number one, “West End Girls”. It reached #19 in the UK.

The song is about the inevitability of falling in love, even for those who deliberately shun the idea.

Producer Stephen Hague receives a co-writing credit for writing the first two chords of the middle section of the song.[2] Andy Mackay of Roxy Music plays the saxophone parts towards the end of the song.

The 12-version of the single contains remixes by 1980s producer Shep Pettibone. The remixes of “Love Comes Quickly” and “That’s My Impression” reached the top ten on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in October 1986.[3] Later, in 2003, new remixes by Blank & Jones were produced for the promotion of the singles collection PopArt.

The cover, featuring Chris Lowe in a baseball cap emblazoned with “BOY” in block letters, has become an iconic Pet Shop Boys image. It has been incorporated into various parodies of the duo’s appearance, such as the music video for the 2006 Pet Shop Boys single “I’m with Stupid”, and a 2006 comic strip from webcomic Scary Go Round.

Neil Tennant of the duo later recollected that he had expected the image of the cap to be the group’s coming out moment, calling it “incredibly gay.

Excellent. Thanks for this. A quick question though. On trying to download the older two PSB tracks on your site i keep getting that ‘Connecting…’ message again. Is there a reason for this and does anyone else experience this on old downloads from this site. I’m eager to find out what’s going on. All the daily new additions i have no problems whatsoever downloading.

    DjPaulT Reply:

Neil it the reason may be because those older posts were originally on my old WordPress site. When I moved to my own domain I uploaded those files onto this site but I have never had any one else mention having any problems.

One of my fave Pets tracks. I actually think the single version is inferior to the album version – be interesting to hear these mixes. 🙂 Ta.

My mistake – it’s Heart that’s got the bad single mix!

LQG mixes great tho – especially as I accidently started watching Diff’rent Strokes clips on YouTube while it was playing and the NY dialogue sounded AWESOME over the top of the instrumental sections. 😀

I urge everyone to give it a go.

incredibly gay ? – intelligently gay ! I’d of said – It Must Be Obvious = the clues are all there LOL – Part of the PSB’s appeal was just how great there songs were/are = Love them or loathe them – this one [2 me] is an example of there ‘I wonder what a non-english boy Soul diva type singer’ would make of this? , kind of song. ‘Before’ is that sort of’ kinda sweet’ as well. xx

I have a PSB ‘annual’ somewhere – Neil Tennant list his ‘fave’ records on one page & Chris the other – NT’s are mostly ‘Albums’ and CL’s are mostly 12” singles funnily enough. One rule of logic [lol] would say ‘make friends’ with someone who has totally different ‘musical’ interests – otherwise why ‘go round ‘n visit’. I loathe n detest when I hear ‘ I hate Rap/classical/C*w etc -Oh So you
‘ve heard EVERYTHING in a certain style and come to this decision LOL
