Posted by DjPaulT on December 4th, 2011

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1984

“Robert De Niro’s Waiting…” is a song written and recorded by English girl group Bananarama. It was the second single released from their self-titled second album in 1984.

The single is one of the group’s strongest performing releases, peaking at number three in the UK singles chart (the single to date stands in a three-way tie as Bananarama’s highest-charting UK hit). It made a brief appearance on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number ninety-five.

An extended version of the song was available on the 12″ single. The B-side of both 7″ and 12″ singles was a song called “Push!”. Also included on the 12″ single, was an unlisted track; a different version “Link” from Bananarama.

    Woo!
    The Rama continues!?!?
    Awesome!
I was pleasantly surprised back in ’84 that this single did as well as it did.
Competition was stiff during its two week stint at #3.
There’s – It’s Raining Men by Weather Girls, It’s A Miracle – Culture Club, A Love Worth Waiting For – Shakin Stevens, You Take Me Up – The Thompson Twins and People by People by Depeche Mode.
Unfortunately, none of these fine singles managed to threaten the dirge that is Lionel Richie’s Hello. Ughs!
BTW, has anyone ever heard the Al Pacino’s Waiting Demo?
Ans also, it would’ve been nice if the girls had really gone ahead and asked Mr De Niro to appear in the video like they wanted. But I guess they couldn’t afford him!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Ric I have never heard “Al Pacino’s Waiting” that sounds interesting and he is one of my favorite actors. I agree the girls should have gotten De Niro to at least do a cameo, but your right he was probably too expensive.

    ric Reply:

If I remember correctly, they felt that Al Pacino’s waiting sounded a bit clumsier to sing and opted for Robert De Niro’s Waiting instead.
Wouldn’t it be nice if they had that on the B-side!

    DjPaulT Reply:

That would have been really cool.

A pity Robert De Niro never appeared in the song. Perhaps his singing voice isn’t too good. 😛
