BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1986

REQUEST

Andy Taylor (born 16 February 1961) is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He was a member of Duran Duran and the Power Station. He has also performed as a solo artist, and served as a record producer for several other artists.

After six years with Duran Duran in the 1980s, Taylor collaborated with ex-Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones on his debut solo album Thunder.

In the mean time he recorded the hit single “Take It Easy” (US #24 Billboard – US #1 MTV), which was recorded as the theme song to the movie American Anthem. Ex-Missing Persons members Terry Bozzio and Patrick O’Hearn lent drums and bass, respectively, to the song and video.

The B-side “Angel Eyes” is an instrumental written by Andy Taylor and Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones specially for the soundtrack of the movie American Anthem during 1986. The instrumental was only available on the movie soundtrack until the 2008 re-release by the Fan Club of Andy Taylor’s first solo album Thunder, which included eight bonus tracks including “Angel Eyes”. The recording was produced by Roy Thomas Baker, who has also worked with artists including Queen and Ozzy Osbourne.

    Awesome!

I don’t suppose you have Stone Cold Sober too with that cover of Suffragette City?

    DjPaulT Reply:

Jermajesty I don’t have that one but I am planning to order a copy.

Paul, this is an inconmensurable privilege. Thanks so much. In fact the soundtrack is pretty good, not the movie. Unfortunately I lost it long time ago. I think it’s time to buy a new copy although the prices are very high, but it worth. Pure 80s and yes, it came Christmas Week. So, Merry Christmas and my best wishes for everyone from Costa Rica.

Andy has always been quite the diva in Duran Duran, and for a song title like “Take It Easy”, Mr Grouchy Pouty Moody sure looks anything but that! LOL!
But this song takes me back to the 80s (Thanks Paul!), where movies (whether baaaaad-bad or bad-bad) produced many excellent and memorable theme songs written “specially” for them. These days, movie soundtracks are just another repackage of an 80s compilations.

    DjPaulT Reply:

Yes Mr. Taylor does look a bit haggard in this pic. Andy was never my favorite Duran. I had an eye for Roger myself 🙂 I miss the days when movies produced great music and great theme songs.

I thought I was in the minority all these years.
Where were you guys when it was time to vote for the Most Fanciable Male in the Smash Hits and Star Hits Annual Polls back then?
I adore Roger and his unassuming presence…left Duran to be a farmer. How manly is that?!?!
So it always break my heart to see Roger coming in last among the Duran members in these 80s popularity polls.
Pretty boy John Taylor is always tops…Never fancied him but can understand girls going gaga over him.
But Roger behind Simon My Porky, Nick Ms Fey, and Andy Mr Pretentious Rock-Star-Prima-Donna? Where has justice gone?

I totally agree with you Ric and in that order too 🙂

Thanks for this 12’er Paul! I recently sold Andy’s orig. 1986 CD release ‘Thunder’ for quite a bit of money on eBay (shipped to Taiwan)! I had no idea it would fetch that much! Anyways, thanks again & Merry Christmas!

    DjPaulT Reply:

Yeah Rob some of those CD’s are pretty collectible. Merry Christmas to you!

Thanks for this post, Paul. This takes me back to high school when I was discovering Duran Duran a year or two past their peak; I would borrow albums, 12″s and 7″s from my girl friends and record them to cassette. Now I get to relive the feeling in the digital age.

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Christian. I did the same thing with my girl friends I think I was the only guy in my school that was a Duranie (lol)

    Hey Paul,

Many thanks for this. I happen to own this very single, but I doubt I could ever get a rip as good as this! Anywho, this track brings back many great memories. As Orlando said, the soundtrack is good, but the movie? Not so much! lol!

Happy holidays to you sir. Keep up the splendid work my fellow Oklahoman brother… 🙂

Thanks for posting this. I hadn’t heard Angel Eyes in years (had it on tape, from my older brother copy of the single), and it’s a quite good song. The lead single is also good, of course.
P.S. I don’t always post a thank you note, but I’m always thankful for your generosity.
