BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1985
Boy Meets Girl is an American pop music duo consisting of keyboardist and vocalist George Merrill and singer Shannon Rubicam. They are perhaps best known for their hit song “Waiting For a Star to Fall” from 1988. As songwriters, the duo composed a pair of #1 hits for Whitney Houston, “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance With Someone (Who Loves Me)”. They also provided backing vocals on “Let’s Hear It For The Boy” by Deniece Williams.
The duo’s first album was self-titled, and its lead-off song, “Oh Girl”, a bitter tale of a failed relationship was released as a single by A&M Records. The song reached #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on June 4, 1985.

Hi Robert as far as I know there was not a 12″ for WAITING FOR A STAR TO FALL.

Yep, and it’s one of the worst tragedies of the decade. No extended mix… what were they thinking?

Hi,
There is a unofficial 6min 23 sec extended version “Boy Meets Girl – Waiting For A Star To Fall (Ultrasound Extended Version)” which is excellent. This is the link for it:

Unfortunately in the lack of a decent 12″ a cheap edit will have to do. The new dance versions don’t really do it for me.

yeah, shame about the absence of an official 12″ for WFASTF. The other two BIG hits during that time, Will To Power’s Baby I Love Your Way and Anita Baker’s Giving You The Best That I Got also suffered the same cruel fate.
And if I recall correctly, Whitney rejected Waiting For A Star To Fall as a song to record.

Not sure, but I think it may have been Clive Davis who rejected the song for Whitney. I remember George and Shannon talking about it on VH1 when the song was on their video countdown. I’m surprised the Will To Power song didn’t have a 12″. Anyway, thanks for this one, Paul. Always get a thrill out these hard to find, forgotten songs in their longer versions!

Slightly embarrassed to say this one is a staple on my iPod. Probably as much a result of the time it evokes for me as any sort of real quality to the song, but I have always loved it. Thanks Paul!
