Dionne Warwick – Got A Date (UK 12″)
Posted by DjPaulT on July 18th, 2011
BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1983
Dionne recorded this dance/pop gem for her How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye album in 1983. It was produced by R&B mainstay Luther Vandross and really took Dionne out of her easy listening comfort zone. The single was released on Arista records and only charted in the US peaking at #45 R&B and #15 Dance in 1984.
As a sidenote, Jermaine Jackson would later do a cover of the b-side “Two Ships Passing In The Night” for his Don’t Take It Personal album.

Wow, I think the ‘Dionne with Hepatitis’ cover may have put people off.

Wow, she does look a little creepy on the cover picture.
I found the 12inch a couple of months ago in a second hand store, luckily only with an Arista label cover
But then there’s the music….the smooth voice of Dionne, the superb production skills of Luther V., and Marcus Miller on bass…what a combination !
Also check out the beautiful Dionne/Luther duet “how many times can we say goodbye” on the album.
Thanks Paul for this great start of my week.

Your commets say it was recorded for her “How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye” album but the cover says “So Amazing”. Which is it? Who remixed this?

They must have changed the album title after they printed this single because I cannot find any reference to the “So Amazing” LP. There is not any remixer credits shown on the record.

Both are correct actually, the album was titled as So Amazing for its UK release.

Thanks for this 12″ remix, Paul. Dionne mixes are so rare. Is this possibly the only one (pre-90s that is)?

Thanks DJ Paul; I never knew this existed. I downloaded this and really liked it. I went and downloaded the whole album so that I could include the album version on my Lost 80′s show.
Thanks,

Many thanks for sharing this amazing rarity. Now I just need to find the 7″ Remix Edit of “Got A Date” in mp3 (or m4a) and my collection will be complete!
