Rhythm Heritage – Theme From S.W.A.T. (UK 7″)

Posted by DjPaulT on June 2nd, 2011

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1976

REQUEST

Rhythm Heritage was a 1970s American disco-funk band, best known for their 1976 U.S. #1 single “Theme from “S.W.A.T.” taken from their debut album Disco-Fied, the single sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in February 1976. As the title implies, it was the opening theme music for the 1970s American television series S.W.A.T., though it is a noticeably different recording than the actual TV theme version. Rhythm Heritage also recorded theme music for several other ABC television shows, including Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow from Baretta (sung by Sammy Davis, Jr.). Rhythm Heritage was formed in 1975 by producer Steve Barri and session keyboardist Michael Omartian, and included bassist Scott Edwards and drummer Ed Greene. Other musicians who played on some of their recordings included Ben Benay, Victor Feldman, Jay Graydon, James Jamerson, Ray Parker Jr., Dean Parks, and Bob Walden.

The b-side “I Wouldn’t Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me)” did not appear on any of the groups albums and is only available as a b-side track.

Thanks Paul, I think Cher covered the b-side as a bonus track of the UK edition of One by One.

    DjPaulT Reply:

You’re welcome Dan. Cher’s version appeared on the UK version of It’s A Man’s World and on the US 12″ of “One By One” it’s interesting that the Rhythm Heritage version is mostly instrumental.

I have this song on a compilation album called Star Trekin’ 76 (from the old Ronco label). Very low volume record (always had to turn up the knob) so it’s great to have it in mp3 format with your master rips.
