Show-Stoppers ’81 – The (Disco) Sound Of Music (UK 12″)

Posted by DjPaulT on March 29th, 2011

BURNING THE GROUND EXCLUSIVE 1981

REQUEST

Take the voice of Julie Andrews and the cast of the musical The Sound Of Music, mix it all together give it a disco beat and you’ve got “The (Disco) Sound Of Music by Show-Stoppers ’81. I had to dust off a few crates to find this rare megamix, that was released in 1981 and produced by Jeff Calvert who also produced “I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper” by Sarah Brightman. The megamix features original vocals by Julie Andrews and the cast of the movie. One of my favorite things!

Very cool item. That’s not Julie Andrews singing, though. In places, it actually sounds like Sarah Brightman (especially during the “Sixteen Going On Seventeen” portion).

    WOOAH!
Is there anything that you DON”T have, Paul?
Thank you thank you thank you!
It was of course during the Stars on 45 phase where everything and everyone has to get that treatment…ABBA, Beatles, Stevie, Beach Boys, Classical Music, but I thought this one is very well done.
But I always thought it was the original vocals being used. I know getting the rights is not easy, but they do really sound like the original movie soundtrack!
If it’s a cover vocals I’m mighty impressed! The Stars On 45 impersonations weren’t even this tight!

    OMG.

    Just OMG.

Now somebody needs to do a dubstep mix of “No Way to Stop It” (a great Sound of Music number which didn’t make it into the film)

Shark is correct that this isn’t the cast…but they’ve done a nice job of imitating them…with the exception of Rolf who sounds like Michael Feinstein here.

Haha a disco ‘classic’. First heard this a few years ago and just had to track the 12″ down – took me a while tho and paid quite a bit for it. Absolute class! It’s truly amazing how much the lead singer sounds like Julie Andrews. Superb instrumentation and arrangements. There should have been a full album tho, like Meco did with “The Wizard Of Oz” – 2 17min+ medleys incorporating as much of the film as possible.
This does feel a bit rushed at times – certain songs you just want to last for much longer, especially “Something Good” and “Do-Re-Mi”. The climatic ending of “Climb Every Mountain” is both thrilling and hysterical – check that high note!!!! Just love it!!
    Awesome post Paul :D
